Sick Sinus Syndrome

The sinus node is the heart’s natural pacemaker. It is situated in the right atrium. It controls how fast the heart should beat in any given situation. The heart rate varies according to the body’s needs. It is slowest during sleep and increases proportionally with the level of exercise. Other situations when it is normal for the heart rate to increase are stress, anger, fear and fever. In sick sinus syndrome, the heart is unable to control its rate appropriately. The rate may be too slow or too fast. SYMPTOMS OF SICK SINUS SYNDROME
