Our first patient pacemaker support group meeting was held on 18 March 2012 at the Tanglin Community Club. A total of 15 (pacemaker patients and their family members) attended the event.
Dr Ruth Kam gave an informative lecture about the history of pacemakers and a glimpse into future technologies such as leadless pacemakers and genetic pacemakers. After the talk, the patients asked questions about pacemaker longevity, their own heart conditions which required them to implant pacemakers, such as sick sinus syndrome, and some shared about their experiences following pacemaker therapy. There were also some in the audience who did not have pacemakers yet, but attended because they wished to know more about the subject. Following that, the patients were treated to some refreshments.
The patients expressed that they enjoyed the session and would like to attend more of these sessions in the future. The event was kindly sponsored by Medtronic Singapore.
